fragment(s) of a chimera

In September 2010, La Maison d'Ailleurs Museum of Science, Switzerland held an exhibition on US artist Ken Rinaldo. Rinaldo's work is a unique synthesis of biology and robotica and often explores how the two can live together in harmony. As part of the exhibition Do Robots Dream of Spring?, curator Patrick Gyger commissioned a documentary to run as part of the exhibition. Enter Swiss-French filmmaker Francois Boetschi, who in turn hired Mikael Brain as Director of Photography to put together this 50 minute piece that ran for the duration of the exhibition.

six composite acts

Berlin-based New Zealand artist Julian Oliver was invited to participate in a group exhibition at MMX Gallery in Mitte, Berlin. Oliver fell in love with the typically-Berlin rustic quality of the courtyard - seemingly unaffected for decades - and quickly decided to create something site-specific. He enlisted Mikael Brain's cinematographic services whose hand-held work gives Oliver's digital compositions an astonishing air of realism.

ex-berliner magazine

While working for the Ex-Berliner Magazine in Germany, Zeppelin Productions (now Admerica) were commissioned to create several video pieces to accompany published stories on their website. While working at Zeppelin, those I produced included an interview with Peaches after her successful press performance Peaches Christ Superstar at Hebbel Theater, Berlin, and a short profile of a former European boxing champion now running a children's boxing clinic in Schöneberg.

'til you drop

'Til You Drop: Melbourne - A Shopping History was an exhibition commissioned and held at the State Library of Victoria, Australia. Conceived and spearheaded by Adam Milburn with Mikael Brain as cinematographer, the film pays homage to the incredible diversity of the city and all that shopping in Melbourne entails. The film and exhibition ran from Dec 11, 2009 until 31 October 2010.

acres of diamonds

The groundbreaking DVD Album Acres of Diamonds by electro-hipsters Mink Engine continues its world domination: three years in the making, Adam Milburn and Holly-Anne Buck's mind-boggling animation and virus-strength infectious beats leave tunes and images pounding through your head for hours. Mikael Brain shot the live action pieces which Milburn and Buck subsequently embedded within their newly-created world, creating one Hell of a rollercoaster ride and one of the funnest and most brilliantly executed digital pop projects of the 21st Century.

hotel bogota

Zeppelin Productions were asked by the management of this German icon to put together a short promo. The hotel was converted in the late 90s, existing up until that point as world reknowned photographer Helmut Newton's main residence. With its old-world charm, modern furnishing and legendary weekly swing-dance evenings, the inspiration within the walls of this establishment made it easy for us to put together something fun and entertaining.
